In the matrix of code and dishonesty

sits a man with his eyes on the screen
seeing humans looking back at him through a device
never understanding what any of it means
for the man behind the lens sees us as we stare
oblivious to the information we are sharing
it’s an addiction that transcends self-awareness
and replaces it with a simple lack of caring

The man behind the lens is unseen
unheard, unconsidered and irrelevant
yet his power is greater than all that we know
as it’s not those around us who are the concern
it’s the hidden faces behind screens who dictate where we go
